Artist Statement Empathy engendered within humanity through the dissemination of intellectual and sensuous knowledge is the driving force behind my artistic practice. As a printmaker, watercolorist, paper sculptor, and artist’s book maker, I use paper as a vessel of communication as it has been for centuries and as it is now contemporarily. The inspiration of my subject matter evolves around my intersectional experiences with sociological, cultural, historical, and environmental concerns. In creating this intersectional-based art, I seek to progressively communicate with my viewers to encourage reflection on their own intersectional experiences, to reflect on other’s intersectional experiences, and to consider the similarities of these experiences. From this diffusion of intellectual and sensuous knowledge, the response of subterranean examination from relational aesthetics and compassionate considerations will rhizomaticly diffuse the edification and engenderment of empathy within humanity. The world I create is conceived from intense, multidisciplinary research. Through this process of investigation and examination I construct narratives which parallel my concerns. These narratives are translated through verbal, written, and visual language within the artist’s books and reformed reality art landscapes. The dimensions of creation become ambiguous as the reformed reality art landscapes inform the artist’s books, the artist’s books inform the reformed reality art landscapes, the artist’s books are completed documentation of this concurrent journey, and yet the reformed reality art landscapes grow out of the artist’s books. My artist’s books and reformed reality art landscapes are constructed from ingenuity, research, art theoretical concepts, and are inspired by intense empathy for all living beings – working simultaneously to communicate optimism and empathetic encouragement for the growing minds, bodies, and souls.
